Whelan Financial Planning was founded in 2006 to provide personal, independent and professional financial advice and tax preparation to individuals and families. Maureen Whelan, CFP® envisioned a service that offers collaborative, practical and trustworthy financial guidance.
Fee-Only Financial Advice
As an independent, Fee-Only financial adviser, Maureen's compensation comes directly from you, her client. Maureen firmly believes that this is the fairest, most transparent and least conflicted manner to provide professional advice to individuals and families. Maureen's independence allows her to offer a wide variety of solutions that are designed to meet your needs.

Maureen belongs to the National Association of Personal Financial Advisers, the nation's leading organization dedicated to the advancement of Fee-Only comprehensive financial planning. NAPFA members are held to the highest standards for competency, client focused financial planning and fee-only compensation.
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional, Maureen has completed a comprehensive course of study, passed the CFP® Certification Exam, and is committed to upholding the CFP® Board's principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence.
Maureen is a Registered Investment Adviser in the State of New York. She adheres to a fiduciary standard of care, acting solely in your best interest when offering advice and solutions.
She is also a member of The Financial Planning Association, the largest membership organization for CFP® professionals in the United States.
Education and Experience
Maureen received a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting from New York University. While working full time, she attended night classes to obtain a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from NYU.
Maureen completed the CFP® Certification Professional Education Program at the College for Financial Planning.
For close to 20 years, Maureen worked at a number of Wall St. banks including JP Morgan, Bankers Trust Co. and Republic National Bank of NY.
In 2000, Maureen left the corporate world to work for an independent Registered Investment Adviser. She prepared financial plans, researched investments, gained practical experience and learned valuable life lessons about the relationship between risks and investment returns.
A native of Elmhurst, Queens, Maureen attended high school and college in Manhattan. She lived in the Woodside/Sunnyside area of Queens until 2008, when she moved to Peekskill in Northern Westchester where she now lives with her husband.
Though it took a while to adapt to suburban living, Maureen now loves living in Peekskill. Her office is just steps from the beautiful Hudson River and majestic views of the Hudson Highlands. She enjoys Peekskill's coffee shops (especially the coffee shops!), restaurants, farmers markets and art scene. She is the Treasurer of the Peekskill Arts Alliance. Maureen marvels at the artists' creativity. The artists marvel at Maureen's way around a spreadsheet.
